When it moved to Broadway, it previewed at the Shubert owned John Golden Theater on July 10, 2003. It opened on July 31, 2003, after a total of 22 previews.

This most audacious of all musicals on Broadway opened to rave reviews. It has been accepted by both, the adults and the mature teenagers alike, and has been extended four times. Avenue Q touches the real life issues, such as sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn. It has adult oriented content, and has full puppet nudity. It also shows simulated sex between puppets.
